Cuddle Bear’s for Cork’s Place

Sep 23, 2019

The month of September raises awareness for many things – September is: Childhood Cancer Awareness, National Youth Suicide Prevention Week (9/8-9/14), Blood Cancer Awareness, Sepsis Awareness, Ovarian Cancer Awareness, Prostate Cancer Awareness, and the list goes on…

As we take time for awareness around important issues such as cancer and suicide, another topic of equal importance is grief – specifically, children’s grief. In fact, 1 in 5 children will experience the death of a loved one by the age of 18. When a death occurs, children may not exhibit the telltale stages of grief the same way as adults. It may appear that the child is doing fine or if the child does act out, it is considered bad behavior. Chaplaincy Cork’s Place provides a safe and supportive environment where children, teens, and families who are grieving a death can share their experience as they move through their healing process. Cork’s Place offers expert guidance for children during seasons of grief.

This Fall, Cork’s Place is celebrating 15 years as a stand-alone program. In honor of the anniversary celebration, Tri-Cities local Heather Babler is running a campaign regarding her passion of bringing comfort and care to the kids of Cork’s Place.

Her goal is to raise $1,800. For every $25 donated a “Cuddle Bear” book and bear set will be donated to a Cork’s Place kid. Donations can be made through her GoFundMe page at

“Cuddle Bear” book and bear set will be presented to Cork’s Place kids this coming October during the 15-year anniversary celebration.
